You ask a lot from your eyes. You use them for up to 18 hours a day to see near, far and in between. So it’s no wonder that they can get tired. That’s why they need an occasional break.
At the office of Bronx Vision Center, the wellbeing of your eyes is as important to our optometry team as it is to you. We know that your eyes are your windows to the world. In addition to our high-quality, comprehensive care, we also have a welcoming, patient-focused environment in which each individual will feel at ease.
Here are some ways to give your peepers a breather.
Put a clean washcloth doused with warm water on your eyes for five to 10 minutes. Heated compresses give your eyes moisture, reduce pain, rev-up blood flow and ease muscle spasms. On the opposite side of the temperature spectrum, use tea bags as cold compresses. Put some brewed bags in a clean container, stash them in the refrigerator until they’re cool and your contacts lenses are out. They’ll calm your eyes and kill puffiness.
Lighten their loads. When you watch TV, keep the room softly lit. While reading, place a reading lamp behind you and aim it at the page. For a digital device’s screen, set the brightness so it’s at the same level as the light around you, tone down its blue light and look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
Get all teared up. Relieve your dry, weary eyes with OTC or prescription eye drops. Use the drops to keep your eyes lubricated even when your eyes aren’t irritated. If you want to go au naturel, blink frequently, particularly while you’re using a computer. Our usual 15 times per minute plunge to five to seven while glued to a computer. Use a humidifier—a level of at least 50 percent is good—in the room, and stay away from air vents.
Bronx Vision Center’s professional team is made up of friendly, highly trained eye specialists who are eager to help you feel comfortable and relaxed while receiving the very best care. We’ve earned the trust of all of our clients and look forward to earning yours. For more information about how we can help you, please call for an appointment.
